The World Wide Panorama ‘Gardens’ Countdown

wwp

Every 3 months Virtual Reality Photographers like me work together to promote our work using QuickTime VR (QTVR). The not-for-profit online gallery is called The World Wide Panorama. The next theme is ‘Gardens’ and will be available to the public on the 4th July 2006.

I’ve enjoyed being part of this regular event and I’m especially looking forward to the next one. Why? In my last participation in the ‘Borders’ theme, I took a good Virtual Reality image and intentionally made it look worse. I had reached an unhealthy stage as a professional where I always blamed my tools. At that time, I was using a 4 year-old (prehistoric) digital camera and a fish-eye converter lens.

bordersKnowing that I was using out-dated equipment, I kept on telling myself that my work could have been better but don’t worry, it’s that camera with the 3 megapixels or that old pano-head that is limiting your creativity. This kind of thinking made me live in false satisfaction.

But I’m glad to say that I woke up from my self-imposed sleep 4 months ago. I’ve been challanging myself as a VR photographer and trying to take that extra step with my work. My participation in WWP ‘Borders’ was a personal border crossing. A permanent reminder and last excuse I could give as a photographer/producer.

The next event is ‘gardens’. I picked a personal favourite, Al Azhar Park. I’ll talk about it later and probably will show you a sneak preview before the official launch on the 4th July. Until then, take a look at my previous WWP participations:

Marhaba! I thought the Borders submission was rather interesting with its moire patterns; I thought you were intentionally trying to create something similar to a Roman tiled mosaic.

    Marhaba Chris,

Yeah, you are right. it does look like tiled mosaic. I did not want to write my opinion under my WWP:Borders submission and influence people who saw it. I just wanted to silently self-inflict torture to myself :-)

    Thanks for your opinion
